White Birch- (Betula Pendula)

The white birch tree is a common landscape tree in the Southern California landscape that stays to scale when planted infront of a one story house. The reach a maximum height of about 25ft with a slightly smaller spread.

The are a deciduous tree that has a very attractive bark when completely dormant. The leaves are shiny green and attractive. White birches really prefer well drained soil but will grow in almost any soil. In heavey clay soils they can run into problems. White birch are a short lived trees usually not living more than 50 or 60 years. In the 1970's most one story houses were planted with 3 white birch tree. They are commonly planted in groupings.
